Holy Ghost! New Tour Dates and Free MP3 ft. Michael McDonald

Holy Ghost!

Holy Ghost! are ready to kick off an extended touring schedule for the next few months and what better way to say bon voyage than by sharing their track “Some Children” featuring the lord of Yacht Rock, Mr. Michael McDonald. The track is available to fans for an email swap or a “like” on Facebook, which can be done here. There is also an amazing accompanying video illustrated by Adam Fuchs that was created in collaboration with Adult Swim.

Brother of drummer Jerry Fuchs, Adam is part of the DFA extended family and was thrilled to make the video. Fuchs explains that he, Nick and Alex “have been talking about doing an animated video for a while now. When I first heard the beginning of “Some Children” I knew right away I wanted to do imagery going in and out of clouds. The song has a great ‘holy’ feel to it, and it felt right to go in that direction. I really wanted to play off of Michael McDonald’s voice and have an image that would represent him as God, but also not be taken so literally. The Adult Swim thing came about, because Nick and Alex are big fans, and wanted to be involved in some way. I approached my bros at Adult Swim with the concept I had, and they loved it.”

And this fall marks Holy Ghost!’s first headlining tour in the US in support of their recently release and much-adored debut album, Holy Ghost!. Having spent the last year supporting friends LCD Soundsystem, Chromeo and Cut Copy on the road, they are now topping the bill. The group will be joined by two very dynamic acts: Jessica 6 and Eli Escobar, who are going to be a perfect start to the party. Be sure to catch one of this fall’s hottest tours as it makes its way across the country. A select handful of dates are below and more will be announced shortly!

You can also see them this summer on the Identity Festival Tour, which kicks off on August 11th and features artist as diverse as Booka Shade, Skrillex, Modeselektor and DJ Shadow. For the full list of cites and dates, and all other info please check out Identity Festival’s site.

Scott H. Biram Tour Dates

Austin blues-punk rocker Scott H. Biram has announced tour dates for the Summer and Fall. Biram begins his tour with festival dates in France then returns stateside to kick off a lengthy U.S. run in his hometown of Austin, TX on August 11.

Scott H. Biram Bad IngredientsAs one of the hardest working musicians on the road, Biram plays close to 300 days a year and his live show is a testament that even as a one-man band, Biram fills the room with more raucous skill and thunder than acts with twice the gear or players. With a live set-up consisting of a collection of vintage guitars; a couple rock guitars wired up through a wall of beat-up, road-worn amplifiers; and boot-driven stomp board of his own creation powered by two huge, big-rig grilled subwoofers, Biram’s amplified tramp can turn a bar into a bunch of believers, shaking their fists as an “Amen!” to his feral sermons.

Touring is only part of the fun that Scott H. Biram has to offer in the coming months, as his newest record, Bad Ingredients, will be released October 11 via Bloodshot Records. The album features 13 new tracks from Scott, and the album art work is featured below.

Bad Ingredients, Biram’s fourth album for Bloodshot Records (his catalog also includes self-released albums he quickly sold out of during his relentless touring schedule), is a decidedly different record for those who have been following his road-driven career. Recorded at Biram’s home studio in Austin, Texas and mastered by Jerry Tubb of Terra Nova Mastering (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam), Bad Ingredients delivers SHB’s classic throat-stomping style (“Dontcha Lie To Me Baby” and “Victory Song”), but showcases a more mature songwriter-both lyrically and musically. It’s Biram at his quietest, but don’t worry, Hiram Biram still raises a riot.

The Grownup Noise Drops This Time With Feeling with Tour Dates

The Grownup Noise

Four years and five national tours since the release of their last album, The Grownup Noise’s latest record, This Time With Feeling, has definitely proven itself to be worth the wait. Carefully blending elements of pop, folk and rock, the band bridges the gap between indie and Americana. The record was mixed in North Carolina by studio master Scott Solter (Spoon, Okkervil River). Fusing tranquil lyrics and harmonies with an assortment of orchestrated flourishes including cellos, pianos and accordions, all five members of The Grownup Noise are multi-instrumentalists.

The album opens with “Strawmen,” a lush arrangement that evokes feelings of peace and clarity. The playful “Six Foot Solemn Oath” immediately launches into a duet lead by intertwining piano and strings. Sorrowful lead single “The Artist Type” boasts an irresistible melody, expertly uniting gentle string arrangements and booming piano.

Carnival lifts the tempo with a powerful folk-rock hook and lyrics that tell the tale of a magical love.

The Grownup Noise will kick off a national summer tour this week in support of This Time With Feeling. Catch them live in your city!

Sea Of Bees Drops Gnomes EP on August 23rd with Tour Dates

Sea of BeesThat voice… just over one year ago Sea Of Bees quietly released Songs For The Ravens on Crossbill Records and her haunting vocals echoed out through the world. Looking back, it’s hard to believe that it’s only been one year. The past twelve months saw Jules Bee signing with Heavenly Records in the UK, full tours of North America and Europe, accolades from MOJO, NPR, BBC, Spin and so many more. Even a performance at the notorious Glastonbury Festival came in the wake of Songs For The Ravens. With great pleasure, we’re happy to announce that, on August 23rd, Crossbill Records will release the Gnomes EP!

Gnomes is quietly disarming, propelled by a characteristic child-like vocal, wrapping intimate musings against a backdrop of rhythmic guitar riffs. The song is alluring in its mysterious and fragmented beauty and a clear highlight last year’s album. Gnomes is the accompanied by a remix by Tunng – the folk experimentalists contort the original, chopping the vocals in amongst Eastern strings, both urgent and exhilarating. “Don’t Fear The Reaper” is a cover of Blue Oyster Cult and sees Sea Of Bees collaborate with Neal Casal who once again showcases his fine craftsmanship, having been a key member of Ryan Adams’ The Cardinals. To round off the EP “With Or Without You” is a delicate, wistful cover of the U2 classic.

Sea of Bees Tour Dates

08.11.11 – Davis, CA @ Sofia’s with Vetiver

Free Download of Do or Die from The Wandas

The Wandas

Here at Blog Rocking Beat, we do our best to not only keep you in the loop, but get you free music downloads, too. Here’s another one coming your way. This time it’s a new song from The Wandas titled “Do or Die.”

“Do or Die” comes from the band’s self-titled album, a collection of interweaving doo-wop vocal melodies and ’60s and ’70s rock, which is set to drop on August 30th.

“The Wandas” was already named one of the “50 Best Albums of 2011″ by Guitar World. USA Today raves “Do or Die. Ooh, I can’t get tired of this one — and after the first chorus, I couldn’t get tired of singing it, either. The Wandas may remind you a bit of early Wilco, although they hail from Boston.” My Old Kentucky Blog goes on to say “The Wandas’ breakthrough may be upon us. The song is both effortless and timeless, the kind of thing Tom Petty used to knock out at will, and a slice of music so perfect that you need not be surprised if you end up standing next to your parents the next time The Wandas swing through your town.”

Check it out and decide for yourself!

Zechs Marquise Drops Getting Paid on September 27th with Teaser Video

Zechs Marquise

The Mars Volta sibling band, Zechs Marquise, its their forthcoming new album, Getting Paid with a video teaser comprised of snippets from several album tracks. The band is currently in the midst of an extensive tour supporting RX Bandits and Maps & Atlases. Fall tour dates will be announced soon, but current summer dates are listed below.

Zechs Marquise, the El Paso, TX quintet are back with their sophomore album Getting Paid, bringing an intensified swagger to the band’s multifaceted psych-prog haze for their most aggressive and versatile effort to date. “We liked that hip-hop attitude,” explains drummer Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez of the album title. “Getting your piece, taking yours.” And, Getting Paid certainly finds the band fully taking charge of their musical destiny.

In the years since their auspicious 2009 debut, Our Delicate Stranded Nightmare, Zechs Marquise toured extensively throughout the U.S., proving to be a formidable live act supporting Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group and RX Bandits as well as leading their own headlining tours. Zechs Marquise have also grown considerably in other ways. Recent addition Rikardo Rodriguez-Lopez on keyboards and trumpet joins his brothers, drummer Marcel and bassist Marfred alongside guitarists Matthew Wilkson and Marcos Smith contributing to the band’s expanded sound. Not only have they reached new plateaus of entrancing riffs and rhythms, but Getting Paid also integrates vocals on select songs, including guest performances by vocalist/guitarist Matthew Embree (RX Bandits, The Sound Of Animals Fighting) and El Paso singer, Sonny Baker.

The album was entirely produced and engineered by Marcel. “We started off recording percussion to sequencers and loops,” he explains. “I chopped those sounds up and arranged them. From there, were wrote the album with each of us coming in and playing on top of it. Kind of like a hip-hop song.” Considering the hectic tour schedules of both Zechs Marquise and The Mars Volta (in which Marcel plays keyboards and percussion), the band was forced to work on the album over an extended period of time in between both band’s tours. “It gave us a lot of time to get perspective on the songs,” Marfred says. “We’re really happy with and proud of this record.”

Once all parts were composed using the studio as a tool, the band re-recorded the album live. “We wanted something to represent our live energy,” says Marfred.

“The album cover is a play on Blacksploitation soundtrack art and stuff like (Miles Davis’) Bitches Brew cover,” Marfred explains. “We wanted our own weird take on it.” Likewise, Getting Paid is throughout a wickedly wild take on elder forms of free jazz, skronk excursions, proto-funk and psychedelia with assertive tones and rhythms.

Zechs Marquise formed in El Paso in the spring of 2003, taking its name from a popular Japanese anime character. In June 2006, the band released 34:26, a live improvised set culled from their frequent West Coast tours. The group’s first proper full length, Our Delicate Stranded Nightmare, was produced and recorded by the band throughout 2008. In May 2009, Zechs Marquise signed on to the management roster at Sargent House and released Our Delicate Stranded Nightmare on LP/CD/digital in August of that year through Rodriguez Lopez Productions.

Getting Paid will be available everywhere on LP/CD/digital on September 27th on Rodriguez Lopez Productions via Sargent House.

The Death of Greeley Estates Drops on August 9th with Tour Dates

Greeley Estates

Earlier this year, Greeley Estates announced the phrase “The Death of Greeley Estates”. This title was not indicative of any sort of demise, but rather, a new record from the long running Arizona crew who will share their new tracks with the world August 9th on Tragic Hero Records. The album is an eclectic yet cohesive mix of old and new Greeley, something that fans have been pining after for years now. Front man Ryan Zimmerman chimes in on the band’s transition:

“We decided to take some time off to work on this new record and see if we could get our hearts back in the right place as far as writing. We all wanted to bring back some of the things that made our sound unique in the past. I think lyrically this record is a lot more positive and the whole vibe of the music feels more like us. It’s definitely a step forward for us.”

The Death of Greeley Estates drops August 9th on Tragic Hero Records and can be pre-ordered at Merchnow.com
