The Misfits Announce First New Album in Nearly a Decade With Tour Dates

The MisfitsPunk icons the Misfits return with their long-awaited, first full-length release of all-new, original material in nearly a decade. Rooted in the horror and sci-fi themes their audience craves, The Devil’s Rain will be released October 4th on Misfits Records. It was produced by Ed Stasium, who’s credits include the Ramones’ Road to Ruin and Too Tough to Die, as well as the Misfits’ 1999 release, Famous Monsters.

The Devil’s Rain showcases a jaw-dropping, two-panel front/back cover painting featuring the rebirth of the band’s iconic “Fiend” mascot in a setting rendered by Arthur Suydam (known for his immensely popular work on the Marvel Zombies series, among others). The band’s current lineup – consisting of founding member Jerry Only on vocals/bass, Black Flag alum Dez Cadena, and drummer Eric “Chupacabra” Arce – will kick off an extensive U.S. tour in September.

In 1977, at the dawn of the punk movement, the Misfits set out to make an impression, and created a legacy that has truly withstood the test of time. Immortalizing black and white B horror films in their music, the Misfits developed a ghoulish and totally unique persona of their own that’s consistently evolved over the years, while remaining true to its roots. The band’s iconic “Fiend Skull” logo has become a staple in pop culture, and an instantly recognizable symbol worldwide.

Bands across the spectrum of rock have covered their material, including Metallica, Guns ‘n’ Roses, My Chemical Romance and countless others citing the Misits as a key influence. Boasting a massive catalog of music old and new, the Misfits are generating more interest today than ever before. With new releases charting higher than all priors, and constant touring around the globe, their diverse demographic and legion of “fiends” (as their fans are affectionately known), multiplies daily.

For fans of their classics, as well as newcomers alike discovering the band for the very first time, The Devil’s Rain embodies the ferocity and melody that have made the Misfits omnipresent and immortal. One thing is certain, The Misfits are here to stay and every day is Halloween.

Robin Bacior Drops Rest Our Wings November 1st

Robin BaciorTwo years ago, Robin Bacior stepped off a plane from Northern California into New York. Like countless nomadic musicians before her, such as Joni Mitchell and Jolie Holland, she’s letting her Golden State home and her New York backyard influence her sound. Her songs reveal honest pictures with instrumentation as a medium to illuminate her lyrics.

At just 24, Robin’s voice speaks of a much older soul. She crafts folk vignettes softly painted in waltz timing and has taken to stages around New York City, such as Mercury Lounge, Spike Hill and Union Hall.

In the last year, Bacior released her debut EP, Aimed For Night, and her first 7″, “Man Before Me b/w Headless Sheep”, on her own label, Consonants & Vowels Recordings, a partnership with her long-time friend. The resulting music captured the attention of New York’s folk scene with near lullaby-like compositions, lingering melodies and subtle harmonies abound.

While prior projects were recorded in her hometown of Chico, CA, the LP, Rest Our Wings, was spread across the map at San Fransisco-based Tiny Telephone, Brooklyn-based Headgear Studios, and within the home of engineer Nick Smeraski. The album is meant to reflect certain shots in a transient period of Bacior’s life, of ebb and flow both geographically and within relationships.

The opening track, “Pair Migration,” sets the tone for the commotion, specifically referring to New York and its impermanent nature, and finding comfort within its speed. The title, Rest Our Wings, is a line from the album’s single, “Ohio,” and an attempt to be still within so much movement, and find day-to-day resolution in an open-ended timeline of questions.

Annie Crane Reveals the First Video from Jump With A Child’s Heart

Annie Crane

NYC-based singer-songwriter Annie Crane has completed the video for “Copenhagen Heart,” the latest single from her upcoming album Jump With A Child’s Heart out on October 4th, 2011 from Constant Clip Records. The video was directed by Jesse Miksic and shot along the water in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in Ridgewood, Queens and in the artist’s own apartment where viewers can clearly see postcard reminders of Crane’s touring to Copenhagen, Paris, Hamburg and Berlin.

It was at the beginning of this 2010 European tour that Crane wrote this song about feeling homesick and missing her man. “At the time, I had just been on vocal rest for the about four months and I was pretty rusty,” she says.

Crane had lost her voice for three months in 2008 and upon recovering, spent the next two years trying to fully rehabilitate it. She saw multiple doctors and specialists during that time, one of which told her she wasn’t “singing right,” about which the classically trained vocalist comments, “It was total horse shit. I know how to sing without harming myself.”

When Crane finally was able to get on a good health insurance plan (“People without health insurance get shoddy care and are treated differently than those with it”), determine the actual cause of the problem (“Just a sweet little case of acid reflux”) and recover, she still had to fight the nerves and self-doubt that went with using her voice again after a long time off.

“I was feeling self-conscious and like a fool and therefore homesick and missing my man,” she says candidly. Crane stayed on tour, however, and put her feelings into a song that is one of many bright spots on her new album. Perseverance is actually the main theme of Jump With A Child’s Heart. The record weaves the reality of city life into tracks that combine the essence of classic ’60s folk, traditional Celtic music and rootsy Americana with Crane’s optimistic messages about making dreams come true.

65Daysofstatic Drops We Were Exploding Anyway Deluxe Edition October 25th

65Daysofstatic

British electronic-infused post-rock faves 65Daysofstatic announce the North American release of their latest album We Were Exploding Anyway in a special deluxe edition that also features the recent Heavy Sky EP. The expanded set will only be released in North America and hits stores on 2xCD, LP and Digital Download on October 25th, 2011 via Monotreme Records.

The Cure founder and legendary songwriter Robert Smith lends his iconic vocals to the album track, “Come To Me”, while the band also experiments wildly with its sound throughout both critically-praised releases. Check out MP3s for the pair of lead tracks from the deluxe edition:

65daysofstatic – the name still shrouded in inspirational ambiguity, the band still one of the most arresting live acts on the circuit – arrive at album four reborn. Following years of incessant touring, and three albums in as many years, a break in momentum has given them the breathing space necessary to revaluate their artistry, to focus on fresh ambitions and reach for them. From the underground, over; out of the basements and into the light: this is the Sheffield quartet as you’ve never heard them before.

The quintet scored an unlikely hit in 2004 with their debut album, The Fall Of Math. A critical success, it launched the band into a new league of recognition; here, they would hone their sound, transforming from studio operatives crafting rave music for rockers into a rock band impossible not to rave to. Live, they excelled. Audiences swelled. Album two, 2005′s One Time For All Time, furthered their already enviable reputation. Audiences got larger still. In 2007, they released The Destruction Of Small Ideas — album three was supported not only by domestic treks up motorways, but also by worldwide touring alongside The Cure. The ante had been upped.

New Day, New Deal at American Musical Supply
But then, silence. A pause. Stasis for the ‘static. Rediscovery of music that passed them by before — Daft Punk, house music, hedonism over IDM headaches — and a prolonged period of writing where new ideas could exert substantial pressure on the old. Audacious, disregarding of former glories, We Were Exploding Anyway is 65days anew. This is not a rock band with a bit of glitch on the side, all guitars with the slightest semblance of high-BPM beat-craft as underlay; it’s a not-so-distant dance party, the purest euphoria as earworms that dig deep and nestle tight. It’s an arms-aloft salute to the thrill of letting yourself go in the tide, and riding that rush ’til it leaves you breathless but so prepared to go around again.

The deluxe 2-CD edition includes bonus 7-track Heavy Sky CD EP. Vinyl edition is heavyweight 180 gm vinyl (dark blue and white versions) and includes a free copy of the album CD, poster and digital download coupon for the Heavy Sky EP.

Grace Jones Drops Hurricane in the U.S. on September 6th with Free Download

Grace JonesAcclaimed singer, songwriter and actress, Grace Jones is preparing to release Hurricane, a new album of original material, in the U.S. on September 6 via [PIAS] America. Produced by Jones and Ivor Guest, Hurricane has received widespread praise in the U.K. and Europe where it was released in 2009. The tracks “Williams’ Blood” and “Corporate Cannibal” have emerged as hits as has the video for “Corporate Cannibal” directed by Nick Hooker. The release will also include a brand new bonus disc dub version of the entire album.

In July 2009, Jones performed in a new show at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Collaborating with acclaimed Academy Award-winning costume and production designer Eiko Ishioka, Jones debuted songs from the new album for U.S. audiences.

The shows received overwhelming praise from audiences and critics alike.

Born in Jamaica before relocating to Syracuse, New York with her family, Grace Jones embarked on a successful career as a model in New York City and Paris. In 1977, Jones secured her first record deal resulting in a string of dance-club hits including “I Need A Man” and her acclaimed reinvention of Edith Piaf’s classic “La Vie En Rose”. The three disco albums she recorded, “Portfolio” (1977), “Fame” (1978) and “Muse” (1979), generated considerable success in the market and established her as a major recording artist.

During this period, Jones became a fixture on the international club scene and was often seen at New York City’s famed nightclub Studio 54. Jones also became a muse to Andy Warhol who photographed her extensively and created a series of iconic portraits of her.

Towards the end of the 1970s, Jones adapted the emerging New Wave music to create a different style for herself. Working with Island Records producers Chris Blackwell, Alex Sadkin and Compass Point All Stars, she recorded the critically acclaimed albums “Warm Leatherette” (1980) and “Nightclubbing” (1981). These included reimagining’s of songs by Sting (“Demolition Man”), Iggy Pop and David Bowie (“Nightclubbing”), Roxy Music (“Love is the Drug”), Astor Piazzolla (“I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango)”) and Tom Petty (“Breakdown”).

Both albums included tracks co-written by Jones herself including “A Rolling Stone”, “Feel Up” and most notably, the post-disco dance track “Pull Up to the Bumper”, which spent seven weeks as #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club play chart and became a Top 5 single on the U.S. R&B chart.

Parallel to her musical shift was an equally dramatic visual makeover, created in partnership with artist Jean-Paul Goode, with whom she had a son. Jones adapted a severe, androgynous look with square-cut hair and angular, padded clothes. The cover photographs of “Nightclubbing” and “Warm Leatherette” as well as her subsequent albums exemplified this new identity.

Jones’ next release was the dub reggae-influenced “Living My Life” (1982), which featured the self-penned hit “My Jamaican Guy”. In 1985, she worked with Trevor Horn for the conceptual music collage “Slave to the Rhythm” and, in 1986, she collaborated with Nile Rogers for “Inside Story”, which produced the Billboard 100 Hit, “I’m Not Perfect (But I’m Perfect For You”), one of several songs she co-wrote with Bruce Wooley. “Bulletproof Heart” (1989) spawned the Number 1 U.S. Hot Dance Club Play hit “Love on Top of Love (Killer Kiss)” produced by C&C Music Factory’s David Cole and Robert Clivilles.

Jones is equally famous for her motion picture roles in such features as “Conan the Destroyer” (1984) co-starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, “A View to a Kill” (1985) co-starring Roger Moore as James Bond, the vampire thriller “Vamp” (in which Keith Haring famously painted her body for her role as an undead exotic dancer) and “Boomerang” (1992) co-starring Eddie Murphy (for which she recorded the song “7 Day Weekend”). Her television work includes appearances on “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special” (1988), “Beastmaster” (1999) and “Shaka Zulu: The Citadel” (2001).

David Lynch Drops Crazy Clown Time on November 8th

David LynchVisionary filmmaker, David Lynch, will make his solo debut as a musical artist this fall with Crazy Clown Time. Produced and written by Lynch, the album’s 14 original songs spotlight him on guitar and vocals. The album will be released on November 8 by independent British label Sunday Best Recordings / PIAS in America.

Crazy Clown Time will be available for purchase at retail outlets in both physical and digital formats, including a Collector’s Edition CD; iTunes exclusive with video; and a double LP set with bonus tracks.

Through the years, Lynch has collaborated frequently with others on various musical projects – composer Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks), Polish pianist Marek Zebrowski (Inland Empire), plus Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse (Dark Night of the Soul). Crazy Clown Time, however, marks the first time Lynch steps into the spotlight alone.

“The love of experimenting with sound and music is what’s driving this boat,” explained the self-taught ‘non-musician’. “All of the songs on the album started as a jam. The jams eventually found a form and lyrics appeared.”

Lynch recorded Crazy Clown Time over several months at his own Asymmetrical Studio with engineer Dean Hurley, who contributes guitar and drums to several songs. The recording process, Lynch recalls, was filled with happy creative accidents. “There were so many accidents; this album should be in the hospital.”

The result is a collection of dark songs Lynch has described as “modern blues.” Filled with foreboding soundscapes, hypnotic rhythms and enigmatic lyrics, Crazy Clown Time will surely resonate with fans of Lynch’s films, but should also appeal to listeners who appreciate gloriously daring and quirky pop music.

The tracks released last year hint at the album’s range. The driving beat of “Good Day Today” also fuels “Stone’s Gone Up,” “Noah’s Arc” and “Strange and Unproductive Thinking,” while the menacing shuffle of “I Know” reverberates through “So Glad,” “Football Game” and “Pinky’s Dream,” which features guest vocalist Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Lynch’s passion for music has always figured prominently into his filmmaking, starting with his feature debut Eraserhead (1977) – which included “In Heaven,” a song he wrote with Peter Ivers – and continuing through to his most recent work, Inland Empire (2006) – which featured several tracks penned by Lynch.

Four years ago, motivated by his growing musical ambitions, Lynch became the eponymous creator of the David Lynch Music Company. Then, in 2010, he transformed his web site into an immersive digital archive the offers material released by David Lynch Music Company since its launch, plus unreleased singles, experiments and instrumentals created by Lynch and collaborators throughout the years.

Zenith Myth Push Back Release of Self-Titled Debut To October 25th

Zenith Myth CoverLos Angeles-based artist Zenith Myth is now set to release his self-titled debut on October 25th via Vibra Cobra records. Zenith Myth is a personal collection of expansive, emotionally-charged melodic rock music that experiments in structure. The record was recorded and produced by Blinker the Star’s Jordon Zadorozny at his French Kiss Studios in Pembroke, Canada. Jordon is known for having co-written songs with Lindsey Buckingham, John Parish, Courtney Love, Ken Andrews amongst many others and recently produced for Chris Cornell. For full track-listing, see below.

Zenith Myth is the creative brainchild of Mike Edwards from Los Angeles, California. Creatively blocked and unfulfilled, Edwards left behind what many would call the “perfect life” (a house in the hills of California, a successful career, a seemingly great marriage), and moved to a small town in upstate NY (Hudson) for some perspective. It was there that Zenith Myth was realized.

Edwards also managed to enroll some his close friends to play on the record, including Paul D’Amour (Tool), Melissa Auf der Maur (Hole, Smashing Pumpkins), Mike Bloom (Julian Casablancas), Sam Goldberg (Broken Social Scene), and Meshell Ndegeocello.

Having recently moved back to Los Angeles, Edwards now reflects,”Walking away from ‘that life’ was the hardest thing I ever did in my life, but I would do it all over again if I were in the same position today. It was exactly what I needed.”

Growing up, Edwards listened to a lot of classic rock, including the legendary Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Supertramp. Add in a healthy dose of Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine, Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails, and you have many of the elements that were incorporated into Zenith Myth’s sound.

Zenith Myth is a break-up record of sorts, what guest vocalist Meshell Ndegeocello calls “the best kind of record.” The songs are powerful and vary in tempo and tone, but almost seamlessly flow from heavy modern rock into classic rock into more melancholic, ambient, dub-like moments. The music is characterized by high gain, pulverizing lows, inventive and extensive use of feedback, distortion, digital reverb, and meticulous attention to textural sonic detail. The use of extreme volume and pitch pending, along with the loud-quiet dynamics of the songs form almost their own hybrid. From searing metal through gauzy textured ambient atmospheric ballads, to the heaviest distorted down-tuned subsonic bass sounds, the songs serve as a soothing balm for whatever may ail you in these modern times.

Track Listing

  1. Zenith Myth
  2. Ego Fader
  3. Icicle Tryst
  4. Surgical Gain
  5. Degeneration Blues
  6. Hot Sleeper
  7. Manitou

Afterlife Parade’s Rebirth

Afterlife Parade

Rising Nashville-based rock band Afterlife Parade releases their new album, Rebirth. Following their January release, Death (produced
by Jeremy McCoy of The Fray), Afterlife Parade returns with the
appropriately titled second album, Rebirth.

Afterlife Parade features singer/songwriter Quinn Erwin on his new musical journey. After 12 years as a solo artist, Erwin’s passion for music had given him new direction and perspective in life. “I couldn’t recall if I had ever heard any songs about death that were triumphant and celebratory,” Quinn explains. With a vision in mind, his verses turned into lyrics and songs, which led to the birth of a new band, Afterlife Parade.

Rebirth is the second of a two-part concept album. “Death, as a project, is deep, dark and atmospheric,” Erwin says. “Rebirth is the exact opposite – it’s upbeat, percussive and a bit electronic.” The concept was to first release an EP about death as no one had seen it before; a celebration of life, and then release a second album about being reborn, hence the name, Afterlife Parade. Rebirth was produced by the production team I Am the Actor (Jason Morant, Jeremy Lutito of Leagues, and Dan Brigham of Canon Blue). The first single off the album is entitled, “Black Woods, White Beach.”
