Copenhagen-via-NYC songtress, CALLmeKAT (Katrine Ottosen), has premiered a new video for “Sunny Day.” The single is taken from her forthcoming sophomore full-length, Where The River Turns Black. Yet to be released in US, the album includes collaborations with drummer and producer Joe Magistro (Prophet Omega), bass player Sara Lee (Gang Of Four, B 52′s), and guest appearances by friends Erika Spring (Au Revoir Simone) and Helgi Jonsson (Sigur Ros). CALLmeKat will embark on a nationwide tour starting on May 22nd in Boston and ending on June 9th in Seattle. Passing through major markets on the East Coast and Midwest, her alternative psych-pop will be accompanied on all dates by the indie-folk of Rocky Votolato.
Ottosen grew up in a forest in the Danish countryside, where she would always find herself secretly drawn towards an old beat up piano. Now, later in life, her ongoing love for vintage and analog keyboards shines through in her music, infused with an earthy feel and a rare talent for the balance between electric and organic elements.
Having toured all over Europe several times and guested the stages of many festivals all over the world, naturally she also made an appearance at SXSW in 2010 where she performed an NPR “Tiny Desk SXSW Concert,” before making the site’s “Who We Liked-list” at SXSW ’10. She returned late last year to perform a full “Tiny Desk Concert.”
