Icelandic electronic group, FM Belfast, has premiered a new video for single “DeLorean” with IFC. In the video the band spares no expense of taking their fans through a journey of unforeseen territories in time and space. It’s almost as if they were taking a ride on Marty McFly’s and Doc Brown’s own DeLorean. Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson, the band’s electronics mastermind, builds synths and drummodules by himself, explaining how the song came to be after staying up all night. “I was trying to finish building my first working synthesizer that made more than just uncontrollable noises. When the synth was done I immediately had to record something. The first thing that came out is the beginning of the song.” “DeLorean” was be released as digital 7″ on June 22nd via Morr Music and follows the band’s last year’s sophomore LP, Don’t Want To Sleep LP.
One of MTV’s “International Bands To Watch” at SXSW ’11, FM Belfast Lóa Hjálmtýsdóttir and Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson formed the band in late 2005 as a studio project where they recorded songs for friends as Christmas presents. Adding two more friends to the mix, Árni Vilhjálmsson and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason (múm), these four remain the core of FM Belfast, but will often draft their friends into the performance, with as many as 25 people ending up on stage.
