Girl In A Coma Team Up With Transistor Six For “One Eyed Fool” Video, Fall Tour Dates

Girl in a Coma

Girl in a Coma teamed up with Austin’s Transistor Six for a live video of “One Eyed Fool” filmed in Super 8! The video was filmed at an unannounced weekday gig and the band’s fans turned out in droves to support the San Antonio trio. “There was a line out the door and around the block and when Jenn, Nina and Phanie hit the stage you couldn’t help but feel the connection with everyone singing the words to all the songs.”

Transistor Six were inspired to work with the band after seeing Girl in a Coma used Super 8 footage in their video for “Smart” from their recent album Exits & All the Rest (Blackheart Records). Along with the “One Eyed Fool” video, they also recorded a five song live session and interview and did a Lomography shoot with the band.

Hot on the heels of their headlining Summer tour, Girl In Coma have announced fall dates in North America with Minus The Bear, Cursive, and a handful of dates with Alkaline Trio.

Five Albums That Changed My Life with Nina Diaz from Girl in a Coma

Girl in a Coma

In case you missed it, San Antonio’s Girl in a Coma has been one of the hottest young bands in America during the last year. Their album, Exits & All The Rest has made its way onto more than a few “Best of…” lists and they’ve even put a few awards on their shelf as well. In short, they’ve been creating the biggest buzz on the indie scene since The White Stripes went national.

We were very flattered, then, when vocalist/guitarist, Nina Diaz, took some time from their busy U.S. touring schedule to share with Blog Rocking Beat five albums that changed her life.

Jeff Buckley – Grace: This man gives me strength. His voice goes through every part of my body and makes me wanna smile because, although he’s not on this world anymore, this album exists and will always outlast time and style.

The Velvet Underground & Nico: Whenever I put this album on, it’s almost as if I can see myself living during this era; it’s exciting and sad at the same time.

Bjork – Post: I must have listened to this album a thousand times; just an amazing women, she is.

Silverchair – Neon Ballroom: I use to have the biggest crush on Daniel Johns and would sing along to this album pretending we were singing together. This album made me want to hug him and say, “Hey, everything is fine.”

The Beatles – The White Album: Every time I listen to this album, it makes me want to become a better musician, so that some day I might create something so magical. Plus, it’s not a bad soundtrack to have on while you’re sitting on a porch smoking a cig and drinking a Topo Chico.

There you have it, folks. If you are wondering how these albums come together in the music of Girl in a Coma. Have a listen:

Girl In A Coma Announce Headlining US Tour, Release Smart MP3

Girl in a Coma

San Antonio’s Girl In A Coma have left a permanent tattoo on the hearts of thousands with their piercing songs and nuclear performances. They’ve blazed a singular trail since Nina Diaz joined the band at age 13 and have found champions and comrades along the way including Joan Jett who signed them, Morrissey, Sia, Tegan and Sara, The Pogues and Amanda Palmer who have hand selected them for tours. In addition, Robert Rodriguez asked them to compose one of the key songs for his film Machete last year. Building one of the most impassioned and diverse fan bases in music, the band announced a national headlining tour this Fall. The band will be joined by The Coathangers and Fences on most dates. For an early taste of what you’ll hear on tour, check out the “Smart” here.

From sharing stages with their heroes to experiencing Arizona’s controversial laws firsthand, the album was born in an especially intense period for the band. “Hope” is a pogo ready punk assault that speaks to the Arizona immigration dispute while daring you to stay still. Album opener “Adjust” is a tale of persecution and a sonic mindfield. Nina Diaz’s voice turns from a lament to a growl in a split second while the thundering combination of Phanie Diaz’s drums and Jennifer Alva’s bass rattle your ribcage. “One Eyed Fool” is a fearless and bare declaration of the universal need to be loved. “Cemetery Baby” underscores the bands ability to seduce you with melody no matter how tragic the message. “Smart” showcases GIAC’s own special recipe for a melodic pop song. The stomping rhythm of future GIAC anthem “Control” lays a foundation for Nina’s voice to build empires of heartbreak on. The stamp San Antonio’s music scene has left on the band is all over the album and its stabs of punk, tejano, rockabilly, classic rock and roll, rancheras, indie rock and ballads all contributing to a sound that can only be described as Girl in a Coma.

Girl in a Coma are that rare feral band, unaffected by trends, that has managed to stay wild and thrill us at every turn. Exits & All the Rest, their 4th album out November 1 on Blackheart Records, is the most heart-stopping turn yet.
