Thomas DybdahlThomas Dybdahl, one of Norway’s most notable musicians, made his US full-length debut with Songs released July 12, 2011 on Strange Cargo, a new label created by multiple Grammy-winner, Larry Klein, in partnership with Decca Records/Universal Music Group. In celebration of his release, Dybdahl will join Tori Amos on the US leg of her Night of Hunters tour. The album is an intimate album of lush, intricately orchestrated pop describe by NME as “Norway’s answer to Nick Drake”.

Thomas’s songs linger with a suppressed intensity. Highlights on Songs include “From Grace,” a stunning pop song underscored by plucky acoustic bass and swirling drums, and “All Is Not Lost,” which flickers with Thomas’s earthy tenor and chugging guitars, dissolving into a hazy instrumental. Dybdahl’s sensitive croon glides over a playfully strummed guitar on “B a Part” while lead single, “Cecilia,” glides on echoing slide guitar flourishes and weightless, breathy vocals. Watch him perform “Cecilia” live at Paradiso, Amsterdam.

Strange Cargo’s Larry Klein has produced work by Tracy Chapman, Shawn Colvin, Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell and Madeleine Peyroux among others and has won five Grammy awards. Says Klein, “I’m honored to be a part of bringing Thomas’ music to the rest of the world. His work has an intrinsic emotional power, and reflects an attention to subtlety that I rarely hear.” Be sure to catch Thomas Dybdahl live on tour this fall with Tori Amos.
