To celebrate the launch of their summer tour in support of their new album Two Matchsticks, The Wooden Birds are premiering their tour diary this week! Crawdaddy hails it is “the best damn self-produced tour diary” and calls Wooden Birds frontman, Andrew Kenny (American Analog Set, Broken Social Scene), who shot and narrated the video, “the indie-rock Ira Glass.”

While Two Matchsticks has been praised as “Gently simmering music that takes the hollow-bodied pulse of ‘50s country and rockabilly and gives it an internal structure borne of indie pop, Tropicalia and the echoes of post-punk” (4/5 Alternative Press), onstage is where The Wooden Birds songs come to life with the addition of live drums taking the place of the record’s acoustic percussion. And The Wooden Birds have added a fifth member for the summer tour! Guitarist extraordinaire Chris Hansen will be joining Kenny, Matt Pond, Leslie Sisson, and Sean Haskins for summer shows.

The Wooden Birds, led by Andrew Kenny (American Analog Set, Broken Social Scene) announce their North American headlining tour in support their great new full length, Two Matchsticks. The summer tour around Barsuk’s June 7th release of the album includes shows along both coasts and two Canadian dates. Last month, The Wooden Birds treated fans to sets at SXSW which featured new tracks from Two Matchsticks plus faves from their debut Magnolia and AmAnSet gems as well. The band also recorded an exclusive session with KUT which features unreleased songs.

This week MTVHive premieres the first song off Two Matchsticks and we’re thrilled to be sharing it with all of you here! The title track was recorded in a converted bedroom in Kenny’s Austin home and mixed at Resonate Studio with producer Louie Lino (Nada Surf). In creating Two Matchsticks,’ the band drew on the strengths of their live show, making it more driven, upbeat and fuller than the Birds’ previous efforts. The album also features Wooden Birds members Leslie Sisson and Matt Pond who, in addition to singing backing vocals on the album, sing lead and duet with Kenny on some of the album’s most memorable songs. Other special guests include Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie along with members of Ola Podrida.
